Mia Hamm??? Is that you???

I've thought extensively about this and I cannot come up with an answer. I don't get how some kids become what they become and there is no logic behind it. Let's take Allie for instance... she is the fourth child of probably the most laid back mother in the history of mothers. She hasn't been required to do much of anything in her life, she doesn't have a chore chart, she pretty much gets whatever she wants and yet she is the most headstrong little girl there is. I did not raise her to be headstrong. I haven't really fostered an environment where one would find it necessary to fine tune their argumentative skills in order to survive. I choose my battles and I only choose about 2 to 3 a week... because let's face it... I am exhausted most of the time and I simply don't care if you wear shoes when you play outside or eat all of the food on your plate. Surely she's picked up on this by now... but yet for some reason, yet to be determined, she argues about EVERYTHING.

Then there is this unexplainable competitive, athletic, natural born chick-jock thing she's got going on. She was born to probably the two most unathletic people on earth. Her mother hasn't gone a week in her entire life without tripping or falling. Throw a ball in the mix and forget it. And for some reason there my little girl is out on the soccer field scoring 2 goals in 1 1/2 minutes, running around like she owns the place. She can play forward, she is the best goalie, she plays defense, she is better than all the boys. The only thing she isn't good at is LOSING. And I just don't get it. Where did she come from? She looks like an athlete, she is an athlete, she will be an athlete for the rest of her life. It is her talent... it is her calling... she is a hands on her hips, cute legged, red faced, sweaty, spitting sunflower seeds in the grass... JOCK. And I will admit it is so fun to have the entire sidelines screaming your daughter's name as she runs down the field.

I also will say... I feel sorry for the referee that makes a bad call in her direction because the poor man has absolutely no idea what he is up against. The poor person has no idea that she will argue with him with unwavering determination with no possibility of an end until he has no choice but to eject her and have her physically removed from the field kicking and screaming. Wait... wait a minute... now that I think about it... I think I know what it is... I seem to remember this happened to my sister a time or two on the basketball court. I seem to remember that this sounds almost exactly like my sister. I think if you lined the two of them up the resemblance would be uncanny. That is it... mystery solved!!!
Kami....... come and get your daughter, she is here at my house and missing you.

Soooo cute! I love my little athlete granddaughter! I'm sorry to hear they lost their first game but I'm sure they'll improve by next week. Can't wait to see her play!!

Oh the good ol days of fighting with Refs, fighting period, broken noses, the crowd chanting your name...and the other side CHEERING as you walked to the locker room where you would spend the rest of the game...swearing, punching lockers, throwing whatever you could find on the ground...picking it up and throwing it down again.
I think we get it from Papa. It is definately a LITTLE trait. Our kids might not look like us but they sure have our...or my... competitive irrational behaviors!
She will definately be entertaining!...I know I was :)

She is a natural... and very determined. Sports take on a new level when it is your child out there on the field. It will be so fun to watch her grow up playing sports (and it will really be fun since she will be the STAR!) Hope you have a great season.
