Allie Rode the Bus

On Wednesday, September 3rd, I had Raleigh drive me to the elementary school. I grabbed Allie on a dead run, held her as tight as I could and boarded the school bus with 63 other children. There was weeping wailing and gnashing of teeth, but I held tight to my convictions and did not loosen my grip. We found a seat over the wheel well, so that she could comfortably rest her feet and put the window down to get some fresh air. She was honestly terrified, I could see it in her face. And her usual inclination to be bratty was replaced by sweet requests for help and comfort. The bus roared to a start and Morgan, who was mortified that HER MOTHER was on the bus, was somewhere in the back pretending not to know us. It was a somewhat rocky ride but somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 of a mile later I heard my frightened 6 year old say "this is fun." And I knew we were successful.

The next morning the fear of the yellow beast had returned and not wanting to lose the ground we had gained my sweet, very cool and extremely good looking husband, 6 year old in hand found himself looking for the same high floored seat as the day before. Off they drove, rocking and rolling all the way to the school. Imagine the thoughts running through his mind as he drove along... and also the realization that HE WAS GOING TO HAVE TO WALK HOME. I don't know if I have mentioned before that I LOVE HIM.

The same day after school, I went to the school, camera in hand to document the "solo ride of Allison Koenig". It happened, big smiles and all. A miracle occurred in Eagle Mountain. Jesus walked on water and Allie rode the bus.
PS Allie's bus driver in the red shirt above is darling.

Did you notice how the nice bus driver isn't really touching Allie?? I bet that lady is stressed everyday that the little tomboy will have a melt down on the big yellow beast!
